Learn how to access some of the special places of the Gaviota Coast. Hiking is all about exploring, not just walking through an area, but taking the time to really see and experience what’s there. This presentation illustrates the features of the Gaviota Coast, and describes a variety of hikes to explore it.
Speaker Mike Lunsford is a retired state park ranger who worked on the Gaviota Coast for more than 20 years. He was responsible for the original building and maintenance of the trail system at Gaviota State Park. Mike was a board member of the Santa Barbara Trails Council for many years, and served as the Area Coordinator for Coast Walk for several years, leading hikes on the Gaviota Coast. A charter member of the Gaviota Coast Conservancy, Mike served as its President for many years, and still serves as Boardmember Emeritus, working to preserve this national treasure where the mountains meet the sea.
The talk is FREE and part of the ongoing Wilderness Hiking Speaker Series hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library. The talks are the third Thursday of the month and feature topics related to hiking, backpacking, and our local natural history.
