Members of the Lompoc Temperance Colony established Lompoc Landing in 1875 to import badly needed lumber and to ship out agricultural products. Passenger ships called on a regular basis until the Southern Pacific Railroad arrived in the late 1890s. The area has been a popular recreation location since the 1870s.
