An application for a 10,034-square-foot home on Farren Road, just west of Rancho Embarcadero, has been turned in for review, county planners said this week. The home west of Goleta is proposed at 5600 Farren Road on 17 acres owned by Lynn Ballantyne of Goleta, said Allen Bell of the county Planning and Development Department. The plans include a single-story, 9,338-square-foot home with a 696-square-foot basement; an 800-square-foot guesthouse; a 500-square-foot garage; and a 1,200-square-foot barn, Mr. Bell said. The Farren Road proposal is the third in excess of 10,000 square feet to come under county review on the scenic coast in recent years. The average size of homes in the area is 2,850 square feet. Last month, the county Planning Commission approved a two-story, 10,370-square-foot home, plus garage, pool cabana, guesthouse and barn on the Rancho Tajiguas west of Refugio State Beach. The Gaviota Coast Conservancy, a nonprofit group, has appealed to the county Board of Supervisors to reverse the commission's approval. Meanwhile, county review is pending on plans for a second home at Rancho Tajiguas, a one-story, 10,162-square-foot structure, plus accessory buildings. Copies of the Farren Road application are available for public review at the Planning and Development zoning counter at 123 Anapamu St.
