The Gaviota coast lies at the edge of a continent, the edge of biogeographic region and the edge of the Southern California bight.

These transition zones help create the unique beauty and richness of the coastal area, according to naturalist and retired state park ranger Mike Lunsford.

Join Mr. Lunsford for a free talk tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Solvang Public Library.

In "Gaviota Coast: A Landscape at the Edge," Mr. Lunsford, current board president for the Gaviota Coast Conservancy, will discuss the geology of the Gaviota coast, area habitats and the Gaviota coast's role as a safe harbor for imperiled wildlife.

The lecture is sponsored by the Santa Ynez Valley Natural History Society.

Books on the Gaviota region will be available for purchase from the Book Loft of Solvang.
